My first "brush strokes"
"Rushnyk" is a Ukrainian traditional cloth – is one of the most important elements of Ukrainian ritual culture. Like a song, it is old and profound. The rushnyk accompanies a person through the cycle of life: from birth, to marriage, and at death. Rushnyky from different parts of the country have their specific colors and symbols.
Rushnyk has a special place in Ukrainian wedding traditions. I found some interesting facts:
Throughout Ukraine it was a widely practised tradition to tie rushnyky around the prospective groom’s matchmakers (svaty) as a sign that this prospective bride had accepted his proposal of marriage. If a young girl chose not to accept the proposal, she sometimes used the excuse that she did not yet have a sufficient number of rushnyky in her wedding chest. (great idea! lol)
More than that, rushnyk was present in up to twenty different rituals of the traditional wedding ceremony.

I decided that i also need to make my own rushnyk. I bought couple of patterns, traditional to my region and last week started my work!
Man, it's hard: there are so many rules to it and it has to look good on both sides! I believe we should keep our traditions, so it's my turn.
